Former Mötley Crüe
drummert Tommy Lee returned to North Carolina on Monday to face
charges of attempting to incite a riot during an October 1997 concert
at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Lee surrendered to
authorities in Guilford County and was released after posting a $5,000
bond and being formally charged for felony rioting and misdemeanor
assault, according to the Associated Press. A trial date of October 20
has been set for the case.
The charges stem from
an incident at a Crüe show in which bassist Nikki Sixx allegedly
directed a racial slur at a security guard after witnessing the guard
assault a female fan (see 'Mötley Crüe's Sixx Clashes With Carolina
Security Guard'). Sixx and Lee then supposedly dumped a drink on the
security guard's head.
Sixx was arrested by
authorities in North Carolina when Mötley Crüe -- with replacement
drummer Randy Castillo in tow -- played a concert in Raleigh back in
September.
The bassist was also
charged with felony rioting and the same three misdemeanors that Lee
was charged with on Monday (see 'Tommy Lee Gets Naked, Nikki Sixx Gets
Arrested... Again').
In addition to the
criminal charges, the security guard and his employer are also
pursuing a civil suit against Lee and Sixx that is currently scheduled
to come to trial next month.
Lee collaborated with
several rappers and hip-hop artists such as George Clinton, Snoop Dogg,
and Lil' Kim for the debut LP from his new band/project, Methods of
Mayhem. The self-titled album is tentatively set for release in
mid-November, and a video has already been completed for the first
single, 'Get Naked.'
